World Cup winning T20 skipper Lasith Malinga yesterday said that he was disappointed at not getting the T20 captaincy in 2013, despite being the deputy to Angelo Mathews then.
While retaining Malinga as vice-captain, the national cricket selectors led by Sanath Jayasuriya in 2013 appointed Dinesh Chandimal to lead the national side in the T20 format while Angelo Mathews took over captaincy from Mahela Jayawardena in Tests and ODIs in 2013.
"I was deputizing for Mathews in 2012 for about a year. So I thought when Mathews was released from the T20 captaincy, it would be my turn, given my experience and the fact that most people have talked of me being as captaincy material. But it did not happen," said Malinga, the stand-in skipper who led Sri Lanka to country's first world title in 18-years, during a live television show yesterday(13.04.2014)
