A TERRIFIED 13-year-old boy was killed in the Australian floods after pleading with a rescuer to save his little brother first.
Jordan Rice has been hailed a hero after sacrificing himself for his youngest brother Blake, 10.
The teenager was swept away with his mother Donna when the rope they were tied to snapped as an unnamed truck driver tried to haul them to safety in Toowoomba.
After holding on to a tree, Jordan lost his grip and Donna followed her son into the raging torrent.
The boy's father, John Tyson, wept yesterday as he said: "All these people were just standing around until an old scrawny guy grabbed a bit of rope, wrapped it around himself and jumped in.
"Jordan can't swim and is terrified of water. But when the man went to rescue him, he said, 'Save my brother first'. I can only imagine what was going on inside to give up his life to save his brother, even though he was petrified of water.
"He is our little hero."
There were fears yesterday for a dad who was last seen sitting on the roof of his stranded car with his wife and young son.
Footage shot by a news helicopter showed James Perry awaiting rescue on Monday after trying to cross a river near the town of Grantham.
But there was also hope amid the destruction, with baby Callum Wieland born amid the floodwaters in the Lockyer Valley. His father tied the umbilical cord with a shoelace.
